What Are Crowns?

Types Of Dental CrownsBased on the material there are four types of dental crowns

Ceramic dental crowns are made up of ceramic based dental materials such as porcelain material. Porcelain is known for its natural translucent color, similar to the teeth. Because of its natural teeth color, it is widely use to prepare teeth that are more visible i:e front teeth however, it can also be use to prepare the posterior (back) teeth or as required.

As the name suggests, these crowns are made up of metal based alloys. These are non-corrosive, resistant to wear and strong in nature.

These crowns are made up of gold alloys. These gold crowns are strong in nature and resistant to wear.

Porcelain fused metallic crowns are made up in a combination of porcelain material with metal base.

Care For Dental Bridges And Crowns

Crowns and bridges are expensive and do require specific attention and cleaning. Crowns and bridges should be cleaned thoroughly twice a day with brushing and flossing. The design of these both prosthetic devices is such that it collects the food debris and bacteria underneath. Inter-dental brushes and specialized bridge flosses can also be used to keep the bridges and crowns underneath. Dental visits should be maintained and followed regularly.
