During your dental checkup, our dentists will conduct a thorough examination of your mouth, teeth and gums. They will also carry out an oral cancer screen as standard. We understand the importance of detecting these conditions as early as possible in order to treat them effectively. It's simple, prevention is better than cure. If dental conditions are left untreated, they can cause unnecessary pain, discomfort and potentially further costs requiring emergency dental treatment.We are committed to providing our patients with very high standards of preventative and general dental care. Our hygienists will scale your teeth to remove plaque (a soft, sticky layer of bacteria, food & saliva) and hard tartar (calculus) deposits that have built up on your teeth over time. Most importantly, the hygienists will give you expert advice on how to keep your mouth healthy.
If tartar is allowed to build up on the teeth, it provides the right conditions for bacteria to thrive beside the gums. Regular cleaning, as well as deeper scaling and root-planing (cleaning under the gums), removes tartar and associated bacteria. This helps prevent decay as well as gum disease (gingivitis) and bone loss (periodontal disease), the major cause of tooth loss.
